He worked as a staff family medicine physician at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota prior to holding family medicine positions at Olathe (Kan.) Medical Center and TEAMHealth in Overland Park, Kan.\r\n\r\nPrior to clinical practice, he won numerous research training awards as an undergraduate, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Training Award and the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) research fellowship.
